COPPER BONDED ELECTRODE – PIPE

COPPER BONDED ELECTRODE - PIPE TYPE

OUR copper bonded earthing pipe is an earth electrode designed to safely conduct fault currents into the ground. It consists of a high-strength steel core with a thick molecularly bonded layer of pure copper on the outside.

This combines mechanical strength (steel) with excellent electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance (copper).

The electrode consists of a high-tensile low-carbon steel pipe uniformly and permanently molecularly bonded with a layer of high-purity copper (≥99.9%) over its entire outer surface. The copper coating is applied by an electrolytic or molecular bonding process to ensure that the copper layer does not crack, peel, or separate during driving or service life.

Key Features

  • Steel core: Provides tensile strength for hammering into the ground during installation.

  • Copper bonding: Electrolytically bonded pure copper (often ≥ 99.9 % purity) with a typical thickness of ~250 microns enhances corrosion resistance and conductivity.

  • Corrosion resistance: Copper protects the rod from soil corrosion, extending service life significantly compared to plain GI/steel rods.

  • Backfill / conductive compound (optional): Some rods are supplied with conductive crystalline fill that improves soil contact and further lowers earth resistance.

🧰 Construction & Working

  1. Core & coating: A mild/low-carbon steel pipe is molecularly bonded with pure copper (usually via electroplating). This creates a uniform copper layer firmly attached to the steel core.

  2. Filled interior: The hollow interior is often filled with conductive earth backfill compound if supplied. This helps reduce the resistance to earth by improving moisture retention and conductivity.

  3. Sealed ends & terminals: Both ends are sealed; the top end is typically compressed or fitted with a copper terminal/clamp for connecting earth conductors.

📜 Relevant Standards & Best Practices

Although IN India  We Do not Have a dedicated BIS specification for copper bonded rods, earthing practices generally follow IS 3043:2018 (Code of Practice for Earthing) for earthing system design, installation, and testing.

This standard specifies how earth electrodes (plates, rods, pipes) should be installed and tested to achieve acceptable earth resistance.

Our Product is as Designed as Per IS : 3043 practice AND IEC STANDARDS .

Why Use Our Copper Bonded Pipes for Earthing ?

  • ✅ Superior corrosion resistance — Copper layer resists soil attack better than GI or plain steel rods.
  • ✅ High conductivity — Copper’s electrical conductivity ensures low earth resistance.
  • ✅ Mechanical durability — Steel core prevents buckling during installation.
  • ✅ Maintenance-free service life — Long lasting with minimal upkeep.

A FEW OF BASIC GUIDELINES TO BE KEPT IN CONSIDERATION WHILE INSTALLATION OF  OUR EARTHING ELECTRODES COPPER COATED .

  • Electrodes (pipes/rods) should be installed vertically and reach below the permanent moisture level of soil.
  • They should be spaced and positioned to achieve the required earth resistance (often < 1 Ω for safety).
  • The earth lead connection must be mechanically sound, corrosion-resistant, and bonded to the main grounding system.
  • AS Per International AND Indian Standards like IEC 62567/7 AND AS PER IS 3043:2018 .

📏 Typical Sizes & Dimensions

For earthing systems, common sizes include:
